T-Mobile G2: The Next Generation GSM Android Smartphone

Deal of the Day – 10/07

T-Mobile recently unveiled the T-Mobile G2, a Google Android handset, made by HTC. It is the first T-Mobile smartphone to tap into HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access Plus), which is T-Mobile’s emerging high-speed fourth-generation wireless phone network.

Besides looking well polished in its T-Mobile branding, this smartphone features a spacious four-row slideout QWERTY keyboard and an optical trackpad, along with four soft buttons across the bottom. It has a sharp 5 MP shooter with bright flash and a 3.7 inch bright LCD display.

The device is slightly heavy at 6.5 ounces and feels incredibly solid. By looking at its mechanism, you’d think this would be a flimsy joint, but it’s definitely not. It has a nice flick lock like the old Sidekicks used to do. The keyboard is fantastic and is even better than either Droid or Droid 2.

This smartphone will be giving a tough competition to Samsung’s Epic 4G because its keys feel better and are easier to use, but the Epic 4G’s keyboard is bigger and has another numbers row. The G2 also features Swype for when you want to use a virtual keyboard.

The G2 comes with stock Android with a few Google apps already installed. The camera of this smartphone uses the same app as the Nexus One’s stock Android but has a much clearer picture. Its 800MHz processor lets you do everything while on the go. You can pick up the G2 at T-Mobile for $249.99 with a two year plan, but Wirefly is offering it for $99.99 with a new T-Mobile account.
